Q: When is the next Canadian Chopin Piano Competition?

A: The Sixth Canadian Chopin Competition will be held January 9 - 14, 2025 in Toronto, with a Virtual Preliminary Round in October, 2024.

 

Q: What is the virtual preliminary round?

A: The Sixth Canadian Chopin Piano Competition will include a Virtual Preliminary Round for all divisions. The video submitted with the application will serve as the virtual round performance. Videos of applicants who pass an initial screening will be shared online and adjudicated in the Virtual Preliminary Round to select participants for the in-person competition in Toronto in January 2025. 

 

Q: Where will the in-person competition take place?

A: The competition will be held at the Telus Centre for Performance and Learning (The Royal Conservatory) in Toronto, Ontario.  

 

Q: How do I apply to the Canadian Chopin Competition?

A: Applications for the Sixth Canadian Chopin Competition will open on May 1, 2024.  Applicants will submit required documents and videos online. The application deadline is September 15, 2024. 

 

Q: What are the competition fees?

A: Application fees range from $200 - $400. Details are available in the Rules and Regulations. Competitors admitted to the in-person competition are responsible for any associated travel expenses.  

 

Q: Who can participate in the competition?

A: There will be three divisions in the Sixth Canadian Competition:  Junior, Intermediate, and Senior.  Canadian pianists born between 1995 and 2016 can participate. Details are available in the Rules and Regulations.

 

Q: What are the repertoire requirements?

A: For all three divisions, the repertoire consists entirely of works by Fryderyk Chopin. Details are available in the Rules and Regulations.
