Born in 2010, Xinyi (Sophia) Ran began her piano studies at age 5 and received ARCT diploma in Piano Performance in 2023. She is currently studying with Michael Berkovsky. Her teachers and influences include Shuang Wang, Li Wang, and Olga Chichova.
Sophia has received numerous first-place awards, gold medals, trophies, and top scholarships, and she has been invited to perform at winners’ concerts in various competitions for consecutive years. These include the Beijing Piano Festival, Peel Music Festival, North York Music Festival, Hamilton Music Festival, Guelph Kiwanis Music Festival, Unionville Music Competition, Niagara Festival of Performing Arts, Oakville Vocal Arts Festival, and the International Music Festival and Competition in Canada. She has also competed at OMFA provincial finals for consecutive years, earning first place in Piano Duet, second place in ARCT Level, third place in Level 10, and an Honorable Mention in Open Level. She was also the youngest competitor among the 6 national finalists in Age 30 Emerging Artist Stream at the 2023 FCMF National Music Festival in Canada. In the summer of 2024, she successfully held a solo piano concert in Toronto.
Sophia’s musical activities include playing oboe in her school band and performing as a vocalist at various concerts frequently. Her versatility extends beyond music; she has a wide range of interests, including drawing, dancing, writing, debating, math and science.
