Fiona Weng

Junior Division

Etude in G sharp minor, op. 25, no. 6
Bolero in A minor, op. 19

Fiona Weng is a 9-year-old girl who has already been playing piano for more than half of her lifetime (5 years). As a young kid, Fiona loved to sing loudly in the bathroom and spin with the music. At the age of 4, she was introduced to her favorite piano teacher Coral Solomon by her neighbor. Since then, her lessons have sparked an abundance of curiosity and fascination towards music with questions and comments from “why does piano have 88 keys?”, “what happened to Bach’s 20 children?” to “Chopin is not chopping.”  She has also been studying music theory, history, and “storytelling” with Joe Ringhofer for over 4 years at Berkovsky-Solomon Academy of Music.

Fiona is fortunate to have had her musical passion and dedication recognized through distinctions at local and international competitions, including top prizes at: Steinway Piano Competition, Piano Star International competition, OMFA, North York Music Festival, Unionville Music Festival, among others. In addition, she has been actively participating fundraising recitals and this year, she had the honor of having her debut with York Chamber Ensemble, performing the full G minor Bach Concerto.

Aside from piano, Fiona also enjoys reading, Roblox, badminton, swimming, collecting Girl Guides badges and selling cookies.
