Fifth Canadian Chopin Competition, 2019
Jessica Yuma began piano lessons at the age of three and has won prizes at the provincial, national and international levels. Recent accomplishments include: 1st prize at the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition in Washington; Steinway Young Artists Competition; the CFMTA National Final; 3rd prize at the Orford Music Award Competition as well as the Canadian Chopin Competition. She also participated in the 18th International Chopin Competition in 2021, in Warsaw, Poland. This year, Ms. Yuma was the winner of the honours competition at the New England Conservatory. Ms.Yuma has worked with orchestras such as the National Art Center Orchestra, Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Civic Symphony Orchestra and the Brunesis Virtuosi Orchestra in Italy. The venues in which she has appeared include: the Winspear Centre, Jack Singer Hall, Southam Hall, Jordan Hall, Steinway Hall and Carnegie Hall. In 2020, she was selected as one of the top “30 Under 30” Canadian Classical Musicians by CBC Radio and had a live broadcast with CBC Edmonton. In September, 2020, she began her undergraduate studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, in the studio of Bruce Brubaker and Alessio Bax.
