Fifth Canadian Chopin Competition, 2019
Born in Toronto, Catherine started playing the piano when she was 4 years old. She competed in various competitions including the CCC Piano Competition and the Canadian Music Competition, and won numerous first place awards. She received her Associate of the Royal Conservatory diploma when she was 13. In 2017, she also won first prize in the 28 and under piano category of the Ontario Music Festivals Association, and advanced to the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals nationals, where she received third place. A year later, she participated in the Cleveland International Piano Competition for Young Artists, and was a semifinalist. Catherine also won first prize at the first annual Geringas Scholarship competition in 2018. In addition, she performed in a concert at the Off Centre Music Salon, and in a Music Without Borders concert. In 2019, she won second prize in Division III of the Steinway Piano Competition. She also made it into the semifinals of the International e-Piano Junior Competition in July 2019. In the same year, she won first place in the Junior Division of the Canadian Chopin Competition. She was also among the winners of the 2019-20 Taylor Academy Concerto Competition. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she participated in the Steinway Virtual Piano Competition and won the Overall prize in Division IV, as well as the prizes for best performance of pieces from the Baroque and Romantic eras.
