Ryan Yunen Gu

Ryan Yunen Gu, a 14-year-old piano student, began studying at age 4 and quickly advanced, studying for 3 years under Prof. Kathleen Solose at the University of Saskatchewan. He is currently a scholarship student at the Phil and Eli Taylor Academy for Young Artists in the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, where he studies under Dr. Michael Berkovsky.

Passionate about performing and composing, Ryan has earned numerous accolades, including:

The Gold Medal in the 9th GOCAA International Competition,

1st place in OMFA 2023 (ARCT level),

2nd place in CMC 2023 (Canadian Music Competition),

3rd prize in the OMNI (Orchestre Metropolitain) Music Competition 2024,

He was also a finalist in the 2024 Kaufman International Piano Competition where he got to perform at Merkin Hall in New York.

At age 9 he has been awarded second prize in the composing competition in the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers Association.

Ryan has participated in masterclasses with renowned musicians like Prof. Dan Zhaoyi, Prof. Marilyn Engle, Prof.John Perry, and Mr. Charles Richard-Hamelin, and has performed at numerous venues such as Walter Hall in the University of Toronto, Merkin Hall in Kaufman Music Center, Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, Salle Henri-Gagnon in Universite Laval, and Bandeen Hall in Bishops University.

Aspiring to become a concert pianist, Ryan is dedicated to sharing his passion for music worldwide. In his spare time, he enjoys math, coding, reading, cubing, and table tennis.
